Role Overview

The post holder will work across both the Hyper-acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Stroke Unit (25 beds) and, together with the multidisciplinary team, provide and further develop care for stroke and other neurovascular patients from the local and regional catchment areas. The stroke service at the PRUH is highly performing and staffed by an energetic and dynamic team.

Having recently been part of the Thrombolysis Acute Stroke Collaborative (TASC) quality improvement programme, this is a very exciting time to join the Stroke team PRUH with innovative new ways of working to improve our door to needle times for stroke thrombolysis. We have recently introduced pre‑hospital video triage of stroke patients in partnership with London Ambulance Service and the London Clinical Network for Stroke.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide hyper‑acute management of TIA and Stroke, acute care, rehabilitation and prevention.
  • Work closely with allied specialties of neuroradiology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation and vascular surgery.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of many aspects of these services, depending upon interests and experience; interest in transforming and improving the service is welcomed.
  • Offer two sessions within the PRUH Neurology service specialising in management of patients with epilepsy, attendance at the MDT and supervision of Epilepsy CNS's.
  • Average of 8.5 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care per month, with the remainder allocated for Supporting Professional Activities; potential for additional PAs may be negotiated.
  • Rotate with current PRUH–based Stroke Physicians across the Hyper‑acute service, managing patients on the HASU, TIA clinic and seeing outpatients in stroke and neurology.
  • Contribute to the weekday daytime on‑call service for stroke with an out‑of‑hours on‑call commitment of 1 in 6 weekend days (with compensatory time in lieu) and night‑time 1 in 12 on calls covering both PRUH and Denmark Hill (DH).
  • Serve as the receiving consultant for the DH thrombectomy service on alternate weeks, supervising a Registrar based at DH (and remotely supporting PRUH) and an SHO based at PRUH.
Key Qualifications
  • Fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice.
  • On the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
  • Regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0‑18 years); must be eligible for a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
  • Ability to work within a 24:7 thrombectomy network in London, with close links to King's College Hospital Denmark Hill site HASU and St George's HASU.
