Lineworker III / Lineworker II / Lineworker I

Orrville seeks applicants for three positions

Lineworker III

Orrville Utilities is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lineworker III. Individuals in this classification must have senior-level skills and be able to perform journey-level work. This includes leading line installations and performing maintenance work; constructing and maintaining all transmission, distribution, and telecommunication systems; and performing all phases of primary, secondary, overhead, and underground work.

Qualified applicants must have skills necessary to work with all voltages, work as a crew leader, and participate in the training of new employees and subordinates. The successful applicant may serve as a Line Supervisor in the absence of that individual. All applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent; have completed specialized training and/or have experience in linework that includes verifiable training and experience in climbing and working energized primary lines;

and have 4-5 years of experience working as a lineworker. Additionally, applicants must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Applicants must complete the Qualifications for Testing form available on the City of Orrville website and submit the form with a completed application. Additionally, applicants must complete a written exam. The exam will take place on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 6:00 pm at Schmid Hall, 501 Hall Street, Orrville, Ohio. Doors to the building will open at 5:50 pm and the exam will start promptly at 6:00 pm.

Allow 1 hour for the exam. To be admitted to the exam, you must show a valid Ohio Driver’s License upon arrival. Calculators will be provided, if necessary. Please remember the date, time and location of the exam as you will not be given any other notice or reminder regarding this exam. The exam is open to all citizens and those who have legally declared their intentions of becoming citizens.

Applicants who have been honorably discharged from active duty in the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional credit of 10 percent if they receive a qualifying (passing) score of 70 percent. A copy of your DD‑214 must be submitted along with the application. No credit will be given if the appropriate documentation is received after the deadline.

Passing candidates will also take a practical exam and must provide their own tools, climbing equipment, and must sign a waiver. Practical exams will be administered by scheduled appointments. Passing candidates should be prepared to schedule their practical exams beginning Jan. 6‑8, 2026, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This is a Civil Service position, filled only by submission of an application and completion of written and practical exams. Lineworker II

Orrville Utilities is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lineworker II. Individuals in this classification handle customer service, line outages and emergency problems on secondary lines up to 600 volts with minor supervision. Responsibilities include repairing, testing and installing three-phase electric meters independently without close supervision; training new employees and subordinates; and completing other duties related to the construction, maintenance and extensions of electric lines.

Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent; specialized training and/or experience in linework that includes verifiable training and experience in climbing; and at least two years of experience as a Lineworker I or Lineworker
