JOB TITLE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (CERTIFICATED)
JOB SUMMARY: The substitute teacher provides instruction in an assigned classroom in the absence of the teacher.
The substitute teacher will create a class environment that implements the district articulated curriculum that provides positive learning experiences for all students, including providing each student with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self-sufficient, healthy, productive socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential. The teacher will establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff members.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree with appropriate educational endorsement.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement per OSPI.
Completed employment application and successful background check upon hire.
Compensation
- Daily Sub Rate: $200
- Half Day Sub Rate: $100
- Daily Certificated Retiree
* Sub Rate: $225 - Half Day Retiree
* Sub Rate: $112.50
* Those eligible have retired through a department of retirement systems or are at least 55 years of age or older with a minimum of 20 verifiable years' teaching experience
Essential Responsibilties
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Assess the needs of the students and provide a suitable learning environment to meet their needs.
- Maintain order in the classroom and ensure a caring, safe learning environment, with clear routines and procedures designed to minimize disruption and maximize student on task time.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Maintain safe and healthful conditions in the classroom and report promptly to the principal any serious accident or illness affecting students in the classroom.
- Provide instruction in assigned classroom implementing lesson plans provided by the teacher.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students groups involved.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
- Supervises students in hallways, at recess or busses as scheduled, and as assigned during extraordinary or emergency situations.
- Maintains confidentiality assuring that all students, staff and parents right to privacy is ensured.
Required to deal with a wide range of staff expertise; will experience frequent interruptions and the need to remain flexible to meet the needs of others; may deal with angry or distraught people; experience demands from a diversity of others, including students, community and staff; involves sitting, walking and standing; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; in some positions the necessary and appropriate instructional methods may require specific positions and movements, and sufficient stamina and exertions, to demonstrate techniques properly for the safety of others, or to conduct or direct staff;
may teach in a room without telephone communication; will involve attendance at meetings beyond regular business hours periodically.
