JOB TITLE:

Para educator – Academic Interventionist

JOB GOAL:
The Para educator – Academic Interventionist provides targeted instructional support to students who need additional assistance to meet academic standards in reading and math. Working under the direction of administrators, this position delivers small-group and one-on-one instruction, reinforces classroom learning, and closely monitors student formative assessment data to inform ongoing intervention practices. The para educator collaborates with teachers, specialists, and school teams to implement effective instructional strategies, foster positive student engagement, and support a responsive, inclusive learning environment.

This role is essential in helping students strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and achieve success across core subject areas.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise activities (under the direction of the principal) of assigned students who have been referred to the restorative room for the purpose of maintaining order and supporting the education environment.
  • Maintain individual student attendance data for check in and check out of the intervention support room.
  • Utilize the agreed upon behavior reflection tool and goal setting with students.
  • Provide encouragement, reinforcement and achievement of educational objectives and goals defined by certificated staff.
  • Administer and supervise objective tests or other measurements, under direction of certificated staff.
  • Communicate with certificated staff concerning individual student progress; adjust methods to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities; consult with certificated staff concerning remediation or enrichment activities.
  • Assist certificated staff in maintaining records, logs, charts, assignments and other records for assessment of student progress.
  • Work as a member of the instructional team to provide programs and services to eligible students.
  • Provide guidance and motivation to students; facilitate mastery of skills concepts; promote completion of work.
  • Support students with interpersonal and personal skills mastery.
  • Locate, prepare and/or modify materials for student use, enrichment activities and special projects under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials.
  • Assist in student supervision and discipline.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings and other activities deemed necessary by building principals.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A para educator must meet one of the following:
  • Have received a passing score on one of the assessments (e.g., ETS) approved by the board; or
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
  • One-year equivalent work experience and/or training preferred.
  • Experience in a K-12 environment preferred.
  • Experience with using integrated computerized systems (e.g., Skyward) and MS Office products preferred
  • Substitution of any combination of experience and/or training that provides the applicant with the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the work and meets applicable standards.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of assigned subject area(s).
  • Skill and proficiency in verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill and proficiency in special instructional techniques, computer software, and other equipment to meet the needs of students.
  • Skill in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information, in addition to being able to effectively gather, collect, and record data.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, and students.
