WDVA Dietitian 2 – Washington Soldiers Home
Full‑time, permanent position in Orting, Washington with the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs.
Position OverviewWe are seeking a certified Washington State dietitian to support the multidisciplinary team at the historic Washington Soldiers Home. The role involves charting resident progress, developing nutritional care plans, and educating staff to meet VA, Medicare, and Medicaid guidelines.
Work HoursMonday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Duties- Serve as an expert resource for nutrition-related guidance and problem‑solving.
- Perform assessments of residents per VA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations.
- Interpret dietary prescriptions and formulate individualized care plans.
- Review and audit patient records for compliance.
- Communicate with nursing staff, food service staff, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Document progress notes timely and accurately.
- Review and revise menus for modified diet needs and support menu implementation.
- Participate in quality assurance, data collection, and report preparation.
- Assist with development of policies and procedures.
- Train cooks, food service personnel, patients, or students in therapeutic meal preparation.
- Assist with new employee orientation.

- A Bachelors’s Degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or Food Service Administration from an accredited Dietetics program.
- Certified Dietitian with the Washington State Department of Health.
- At least 24 months of recent full‑time experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or equivalent education/experience.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition or dietetics from an accredited program.
- Certified Diabetes Educator.
- Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition.
- Ability to organize, prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a time‑sensitive environment.
- Experience with project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Understanding of professional boundaries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Serve Safe certified.
- Experience with Point Click Care or another electronic medical record program.
- Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check before starting and every two years.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
- Must complete medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required.
- Must maintain regular, reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
- Must become familiar with all DVA policies, procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Travel positions require a valid unrestricted driver’s license and vehicle insurance for state business.
- Work authorization cannot require employer sponsorship.
- Submit a letter of interest describing specific qualifications.
- Include a current resume detailing applicable experience and education.
- Finalists will provide a list of at least three professional references.
- If claiming Veterans Preference, attach DD‑214 or other applicable service verification.
