Position Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse 2 – Evening Shift, Full-Time – Non-Permanent at Washington Soldiers Home, Orting, Washington.

Here is your chance to get your foot in the door as a Washington state employee! Join our team as a full‑time Licensed Practical Nurse 2 and make a meaningful impact serving our residents. In this role you will deliver compassionate, resident‑centered care to veterans at the Washington Soldiers Home.

Please note: The expected shift is 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Thursday through Monday. The position is paid within the assigned Step L;
Step M is the longevity step and is not published.

This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 facilities. The premium expires on June 29, 2027.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and treatments for a wing of residents or monitor self‑administered medications.
  • Process physician orders and assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care.
  • Prepare, carry out, evaluate, record, and revise treatment and interdisciplinary care plans for individual residents based on observations and recommendations from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other nurses.
  • Facilitate care as directed by Nursing Care and Regulations of Health Professions and Facility Policies and Procedures.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data; document intake and output records.
  • Perform duties as charge nurse in the absence of the RN2.

Required Qualifications
  • Current Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.
  • Proficiency in the English language; able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Valid LPN license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Long‑term care experience.
Special Requirements
  • Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check before starting and every two (2) years per WDVA Policy 615.000.
  • Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
  • Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs.; reach a minimum of 36 inches; push or pull with sufficient strength; walk, sit, and bend unrestrictedly throughout the workday.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Become familiar with and comply with all DVA policies, procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
  • Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
