Registered Nurse 2 – Evening Shift – Full‑Time Permanent – Washington Soldiers Home (Orting, Washington)

* This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step W. Step X has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium.

This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.

Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse 2, you will oversee NACs assigned to your section as related to activities for daily living. Bring your experience, passion, and smile, and apply today!

  • Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on personal observations and recommendations of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and/or other nurses.
  • Pass medications, administer, monitor, and record treatments, and assess resident condition (including skin assessment).
  • Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization irrigation; administer IV solutions, colostomy, and tracheostomy care; maintain gastric feeding tubes, pumps, and other skilled treatments.
  • Assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance care.
  • Report and record physical and psychosocial changes and report actions and findings in medical records.
  • Coordinate communication between the physician, social worker, psychologists, and practical nurses concerning nursing care and agency policies.
  • Promote resident participation in recreational activities.

Required
  • Current Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.
  • Must be proficient in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
Preferred/Desired
  • One (1) year of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Long‑term care experience.
  • Ability to:
    • Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs; follow written and verbal directions; document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
    • Earn trust, respect, and confidence of residents, coworkers, and customers through consistent honesty, forthrightness, and professionalism in all interactions and serve as an effective and positive role model for staff.
Special Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
