Mission: The Department of Corrections aims to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

Safety Sensitive Positions: All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive and are subject to random drug testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, is prohibited for personnel in Safety-Sensitive Positions, regardless of registry status.

Salary Range: $50,845 - $75,251

Job Summary

The Corrections Officer is responsible for maintaining security and overseeing inmate behavior in a correctional facility, following state and federal laws and agency policies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supervise inmate security and conduct during various activities.
  • Maintain perimeter security and monitor for disturbances or escape attempts.
  • Perform security checks, including shakedowns and inmate searches.
  • Maintain logs and write incident reports.
  • Escort inmates for visits, court, and work assignments.
  • Participate in shift briefings and report incidents or security concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to manage high-tension situations calmly.
  • Proficiency in monitoring behaviors and identifying risks.
  • Ability to write detailed reports.
  • Physical capability for demanding tasks and emergency responses.
  • Sound decision-making skills under stress.
  • Knowledge of self-defense tactics.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
