Vacancies 01 Regular Full Time
This 35 hour per week position is located at the Region of Durham Headquarters in Whitby, Ontario.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that methods and quality standards for Regional Plants and Pumping Station construction projects are constructed in accordance with Regional Standards and general contract administration for Regional capital projects.
The incumbent will:
Schedule staff for each varied project, supervising their work and checking accomplishments.
Examine and comment on drawings, specifications, and compare them with the proposed site and Region's requirements.
Respond to enquiries from suppliers and contractors related to contract requirements.
Liaise with engineering consultants, contractors and design staff regarding site-specific requirements or concerns for each proposed project when change requests are made and negotiate reasonable prices that are in the best interest of the Region.
Preparation and Administration of Consulting Assignments.
Approve contract change directives/change orders and administer contractual payments according to the Region's Budgetary Management Policy.
Attend Construction Meetings, representing Regional interests and provide direction on issues/problems to Consulting Engineers and Contractors.
Assemble resources required and oversee contract administration for plant projects and ensure the work is constructed according to contract requirements and verify compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Construction Act, the Region's Health and Safety Policies & Procedures Manual and other Regulatory Agencies (MECP, MNR, etc.).
Establish substantial performance and/or completion dates for contractual work and initiate certificates.
Provide monthly update projections for project status reports and recommend mitigating measures to minimize any project cost overruns.
Establish procedures to maintain accurate and current documentation and inspection records and make necessary improvements to standard processes and procedures.
The successful applicant will possess:
Post Secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Technologist or equivalent with O.A.C.E.T.T.
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (PEO) (considered an asset).
Extensive work related experience in administration and supervision of vertical construction projects.
Extensive knowledge of Heavy Civil Engineering and Construction Techniques, Health & Safety Act, Construction Act, Basics of Contract Law Principles, Construction & Business ethics, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, CCDC Stipulated Lump Sum Contracts and Regional standards specifications.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability.
Knowledge and understanding of practical administrative, technical, operational and financial matters.
Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, MS Project) and People Soft (FIMS, HCM).
Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

A valid Ontario Driver's License and the daily use of a reliable vehicle.
Management & Exempt Salary Grade 6 Salary: $109,629 to $137,036 per annum.
