Job Summary

This position is responsible for the coordination and management of the practicum experiences for the Collaborative BScN and RPN to BScN Advanced Entry Programs. The role negotiates, secures, and assigns placements for approximately 700 students.

Nature of Work

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing, the role oversees the functions of the Nursing Practicum office. Travel is required for meetings with partner agencies within the GTA, occurring approximately 10-15 times per year.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain practicum partnerships: ensure sufficient and appropriate sites for student clinical experiences that support course objectives and learning outcomes; develop new partnerships with health and social service agencies; maintain relationships with existing partners and participate in partner events.
  • Secure and assign students to placement: ensure the correct quantity and quality of placements; assign students to clinical settings in various specialties to meet degree and licensing requirements.
  • Prepare information for internal and external clients: review and update the annual Nursing Program Handbook; disseminate preceptor information; develop forms and processes for student placement; communicate and assign clinical instructors.
  • Ensure student safety and compliance: validate and track student completion of pre-practicum requirements; ensure necessary forms are completed for WSIB coverage; complete and maintain affiliation agreements with partnering agencies.

Required Education

Completion of a formal post‑secondary/college/university program of three academic years. Nursing discipline is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. Verification of academic credentials may be required.

Required Experience

Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an academic environment.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and is subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the university and the OPSEU.
