Position
Our Nuclear Services office in Oshawa, ON is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.
Summary of the Role
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the preparation of design documentation, and providing technical reviews of designs, as well as all Design Engineer duties as outlined in the E.S. Fox Limited Quality Assurance manuals.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain direct contact with Project Supervision, Q.A. and facility management where required.
Understand all aspects of a project budget and consult with the facility and project management teams on all associated costs.
Fully understand the project scope and address issues with the owner on all matters related to scope and design specifications.
Ensure that the company adheres to the contract documents.
Ensure that design reports have been prepared, verified, approved, and reconciled with the modified documents and final drawings as required.
Verify design output documents produced by the Design Engineer of the vendor.
May subcontract stress analysis or complete design of all or a portion of the code item(s) to an approved vendor of design services from AVL.
Select and review design methods, materials, parts, equipment, and processes essential to the function of the structure, system, or component.
Work with ESFL Quality Assurance standards and related procedures.
Ensure design analyses are planned, controlled, and documented in the design report.
When design changes are significant, review changes and impact on original designs.
Reconcile design reports and other output documents to incorporate changes in modified documents used for construction from those used in the design analysis.
Ensure responsibilities and accountabilities are conducted safely in accordance with ESFL Environmental Health and Safety Program and OHSA requirements.
Ensure environmental aspects within the responsibility sphere adhere to ISO requirements.
Generate engineering estimates as requested by Area/Division or per Manager’s instructions.
Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models.
Prepare design packages and field run packages.
Perform technical reviews of design packages.
Provide Design Service Provider Oversight.
Prepare commissioning requirements and supporting calculations.
Prepare an RTM (Requirements Traceability Matrix) and monitor ITF (Issue Tracking File).
Prepare and maintain design plans and ensure project adherence to schedule.
Serve as a Design Team Lead in the engineering department.
Coordinate drawing changes with the drafting department and package submissions with the document control department.
Prepare commissioning reports and maintain knowledge of Engineering Change Control procedures.
Key Requirements, Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or similar program).
Practicing Professional Engineer designation, and in good standing, would be an additional asset.
3–5 years of pressure vessel, piping, and/or structural experience.
Demonstrated code knowledge (B31.1, B31.3, ASME III, VIII, IX, CWB, Piping).
