What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the execution phase for the construction of Unit 1 of the Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site. The Buyer will report directly to the Procurement Manager and will be responsible for negotiation and purchase of various commodities, equipment, and services for sites and projects, ensuring best value and adherence to procurement processes.
What You'll Do Here
Solicit vendor pricing, negotiate, and procure subcontracted services, equipment, materials & components, including nuclear safety‑related materials for use in nuclear power plants, e.g., plate, structural steel, pipe, fittings, valves, weld consumables, electrical components, and PPE.
Review purchase requisitions and documentation to ensure clarity, completeness, correct quantity, quality assurance requirements, proper authorization of funding, delivery requirements, and mode of transportation.
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs/RFPs) to qualified vendors based on Aecon’s Approved Supplier List (ASL).
Assist in developing project‑specific procurement plans or lead the development of such plans.
Collaborate with project schedulers and managers to monitor and update major procurement package progress in P6 schedule.
Negotiate major contracts to secure best price, delivery terms, payment conditions, tax exemptions, price escalation, and other supply‑related factors.
Develop and implement detailed procurement strategies, including cost‑reduction strategies.
Support Aecon Operations and regional offices in obtaining required materials.
Assist estimating team with pricing during the tendering stage.
Ensure quality, reliability, and responsiveness to operational needs.
Manage logistics, including expediting critical site deliveries.
Provide service to internal clients beyond normal business hours.
Maintain accurate training on the Aecon Quality Assurance manual.
What You Bring To The Team
5+ years experience in the nuclear construction industry in a procurement role, or 8+ years experience in a conventional procurement role.
Completion of a Materials and Operations Management Program at college or university level is an asset.
Enrollment in or completion of PMAC’s Accreditation Program is preferred.
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Knowledge of OPG and Bruce Power Passport system is an asset.
Knowledge of nuclear codes & standards (e.g., ASME Section III, NCA‑4000, NQA‑1, CSA N285.0, CSA N286‑05, CSA Z299/N299 Series).
Basic knowledge of other material/component codes and standards (ASME Section II, ASTM, CSA).
Knowledge of P6 schedule extracts (Excel).
Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
Strong interpersonal, customer‑service, planning, negotiation, and time‑management skills.
Knowledge of competitive trends & sales techniques.
Knowledge of SAP procurement system is an asset.
Compliance with mandated nuclear export controls requirements.
Background check with full security clearance and reference checks.
Valid driver’s license.
Pay Range
Pay range: $65,000 - $95,000. Individual pay is determined based on location, education, experience, skills, and job conditions.
