The successful candidate reports directly to the Supervisor of Financial Services and provides accounting and administrative services for all schools and supporting departments within the Board. The position is responsible for school generated funds accounting, financial analysis, account reconciliation and accounts receivable in accordance with board policy, accounting standards and provincial regulation. The position has an important role in supporting the finance department in all financial reporting cycles.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Manage the school-based accounting system for all schools including answering all queries, monthly reporting, year-end reconciliations and audit working papers related to school generated funds.
Assist with internal audit reviews and process improvements.
Administer accounts receivable including bank deposits, invoicing, collections, and reconciliation and reporting.
Provide confidential support to the Corporate Services department. This includes composition of correspondence, updating online resources, producing department newsletters, ministry reporting and responding to general inquiries related to school and departmental accounting.
Coordinate and maintain the finance administration guidelines and administrative procedures including all department memos, website updates and school newsletters
Assist with data metrics and reporting related to improving department efficiency.
Responsible for ad-hoc reporting, data analysis and journal entries.
Provide accounting support to the department for all financial cycles
Administer graduation awards, taxable benefits and donation receipts.
Assist with monthly and annual account reconciliations and the completion of audit working papers.
Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Financial Services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND
EXPERIENCE:
A post-secondary diploma in Accounting and/or related equivalent experience.
A minimum of 2 years’ related experience in business administration, finance or related field, preferably within a Public Sector Organization. School board experience is an asset.
Proficient in a computerized environment utilizing software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, One Note, One Drive), ERP, website maintenance, and other web-based applications.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced office environment with excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and maintain efficiency and effectiveness of services.
Strong customer service focus with excellent interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate ability to function effectively within a team and collaborate with colleagues, administrators, managers, staff, and others.
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.
