Position: Controller for Non-Profit Organization
Our client, a mission-driven non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Controller to lead its finance function. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with senior leadership and the Board, the Financial Controller will oversee all financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide financial leadership to support organizational decision-making and long-term sustainability.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about strengthening financial processes, governance, and operational efficiency.
This is a contract opportunity with an immediate start.
Work model: 3 days onsite in Oshawa North, ON
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Financial Management
Lead, manage, and oversee the daily operations of the Finance departmentOversee full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledgerPrepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and budgetsDevelop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controlsMonitor financial performance and provide recommendations to support strategic decision-makingPresent financial results, budgets, and financial recommendations to senior leadership and the BoardEnsure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policiesSafeguard organizational assets and maintain effective financial controlsSupport the annual budgeting and financial planning processBuild and maintain relationships with banks, auditors, and external stakeholdersSupervise and mentor finance team membersPayroll Oversight
Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable regulationsMaintain payroll records including employee earnings, deductions, and accrualsEnsure compliance with employment standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirementsCoordinate with HR on compensation changes, benefits, and employment updatesAudit & Compliance
Lead and coordinate annual external audits, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentationMaintain audit readiness and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirementsConduct periodic internal reviews of financial processes and controlsImplement audit recommendations and continuous improvement initiativesStakeholder & Organizational Support
Collaborate with internal departments to support financial planning and operational effectivenessProvide financial guidance to leadership on policy, risk management, and operational decisionsSupport governance requirements and financial reporting to key stakeholders
