JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Communications Officer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Relations & Projects, this position is responsible to assist with the design, development, implementation and maintenance of public affairs strategies, programs and policies, including internal and external communications and community outreach programs, which support Ontario Power Generation business strategies at the Nuclear site and division levels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist in the identification and implementation of corporate relations and communications strategies, processes and programs.
  • Help create and maintain relationships with identified internal and external stakeholders to support the achievement of business goals and strategies, including management and employee representatives.
  • Assist the Corporate Relations and Communications management team and senior staff by providing effective employee communications programs, services, advice and strategies to line management, including development of communication and change management strategies and plans for the development and rollout of their internal programs and materials.
  • Implement community relations and employee communications programs and solutions to address issues and impacts.
  • Provide advice to the Corporate Relations and Communications management team and senior staff in implementing his/her part of the OPG corporate relations and communications strategies and programs.
  • Coordinate public events at OPG locations, the site information centres, or in the local community.
  • Assist in providing information to and coordinating spokesperson responses to employees, community stakeholders, and media.
  • Provide writing services for employee communications, community newsletters, media releases, brochures, web pages and spokesperson presentations, as well as other specialized writing projects such as speaking notes, proposal outlines, posters and video scripts as required.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Complete 4 years of university training.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires experience in community research, news media work, publicity, public and employee communications to become familiar with Corporate Relations & Communications issues.
  • Requires experience to gain a broad knowledge of Ontario Power Generation policies as related to Corporate Relations & Communications issues to develop, implement and monitor programs which effectively deliver communications to the appropriate audience.
  • Requires experience to become familiar with the operating policies, regulations, and guidelines associated with the site and division.
  • Requires experience to establish and maintain a strong communications network with internal and external contacts associated with the development of the various communication programs.
