Position: Steward (Part-time) - Port Perry
Location: Port PerryGreat Blue Heron Casino & Hotel is seeking a Part-time Steward!
Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Steward is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen area and all dishes, pots and pans. The Steward is required to assist in the efficient operation and smooth operation of the kitchen and cafeteria.
The ideal candidate is an energetic professional with proven knowledge, skills and abilities, executing the following in support of the company’s vision, mission and values:
Excellent internal and external customer service skills are required to be displayed at all timesEnsure cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area at all timesMaintain cleanliness of plates, dishes, cups, utensils, cutleries and all other related itemsMaintain cleanliness of pots, pans and all other kitchen-related equipmentEmpty garbage containers and cardboard bins are requiredSweep and mop dish areas as necessaryRemove greaseAssist cooks with kitchen duties and provide coverage to cafeteria attendants for breaks as requiredMaintain highest level of personal hygiene and comply with all food safety policies in the KitchenEnsure proper level of chemicals used in and outside of kitchen equipmentInspect work area daily and report any hazards and/or defective equipment to the Sous Chef/Manager immediatelyComply with all health and safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredReport all injuries, accidents and unusual conditions to the Sous Chef immediatelyPerform other duties as required by the Sous ChefSuccessful applicants will demonstrate the following qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 years of kitchen experienceMust be WHMIS certifiedShow initiative and understanding of other roles and responsibilities in the kitchenAbility to follow instructions in a friendly and professional mannerBe thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and method of preventionAbility to analyze current inventory and develop daily prep lists in order to control food waste and spoilageAbility to prioritize and possess excellent time management and organizational skillsMaintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a teamAbility to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environmentAbility to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limitsThe ability to successfully pass a criminal record checkCandidates must be ready and willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overnights.
