Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA), is searching for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for a consulting assignment with one of our clients in Oshkosh, WI.
Responsibilities- Design functional, reliable and cost-effective heavy duty vehicle components.
- Perform engineering analysis and design or redesign, and development of components for existing and new vehicles.
- Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.
- Under supervision, perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to client and industry standards.
- Support senior engineers in preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.
- Be responsible for a project or part of a project of limited complexity, and may be responsible for managing multiple projects.
- Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with suppliers externally.
- Provide guidance or mentorship to entry‑level engineers, designers, or technicians.
- Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
- Enforce proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards and ensure technical issues are conducted within company policies and procedures.
- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
- Prepare layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
- Perform engineering analysis to support selection of parts, components, and materials that meet requirements.
- Provide technical assistance for production support.
- Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
- Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
- Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) or more years of related experience.
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy‑vehicle equipment and related systems.
- Experience with a high level CAD system.
- Internal Contacts:
Contact with peers and others involving explanation of information, gathering factual information, and communication of sensitive or confidential information. - External Contacts:
Limited external contact to gather information, answer queries, or ask assistance. - Communication
Skills:
Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos;
Read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
Write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before both internal and external groups;
Read and analyze and interpret business manuals, technical procedures and/or government regulations;
Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. - Decision-Making:
Regularly makes decisions of responsibility, involving evaluation of information and application of alternatives or precedents. - Complexity, Judgment and Problem Solving:
Generally diversified and moderately difficult work requiring judgment in adaptation and interpretation of established practices to meet problems and situations where application is not clearly defined. - Supervisory/Managerial:
General instructing, scheduling, and reviewing the work of others performing the same or directly related work;
