Carex is partnering with a global manufacturing partner to find a Lead IBM i Platform & Systems Engineer for a Direct Hire opportunity. This hybrid role is based in Menasha, WI and requires on-site presence three days per week. Candidates located in Frederick, MD;
New Hudson-Smith, MI;
Huntersville, NC;
McConnellsburg, PA; or Pittsburgh, PA will also be considered.

This role provides advanced technical leadership for IBM Power servers, IBM i OS partitions, HMC, VIO Servers, and IBM DS storage arrays. The Lead Engineer ensures the stability and performance of mission‑critical ERP platforms while advancing innovation in observability, automation, and security. The ideal candidate brings an engineering mindset to infrastructure design and problem‑solving, operating at a high level of technical and strategic maturity.

• Act as the primary escalation point for complex operational issues, security enforcement, and performance tuning across IBM Power and IBM i OS environments.
• Manage the full IBM ecosystem, including hardware, virtualization, and operating systems.
• Administer IBM VIOS environments with responsibility for configuration, maintenance, and issue resolution.
• Champion observability and AIOps initiatives to enhance monitoring and incident management.
• Advance infrastructure automation using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Ansible, CL scripting) to reduce manual workloads and ensure consistency.
• Design, test, deploy, and support HA/DR solutions such as MIMIX to safeguard ERP platform uptime and business continuity.
• Collaborate across technical and business teams to ensure systems alignment with modernization goals.
• Provide mentorship and clear technical leadership across cross‑functional teams.

• 5+ years of experience in enterprise IT environments, with deep expertise in IBM Power systems and IBM i OS.
• Proven experience with HMC, MIMIX HA/DR, IBM VIOS, and IBM DS storage solutions.
• Solid understanding of ITIL processes and enterprise incident resolution strategies.
• Strong scripting (CL) and infrastructure design capabilities.
• Availability for occasional after‑hours or weekend work during patching, upgrades, or on‑call rotations.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field.
• 10+ years of experience managing IBM i OS and IBM Power infrastructure.
• Experience implementing observability and AIOps frameworks.
• Familiarity with Fortra tools (e.g., Alert, Console, Compliance Monitor, Exit Point Manager) or comparable systems.
• Demonstrated success leading platform security and compliance automation initiatives.
