- Assist customers with product location, loading, and item suggestions.
- Answer telephone calls and provide helpful service.
- Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist.
- Take orders from or call doctor’s offices for refill prescriptions.
- Gather patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
- Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
- Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers.
- Prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims.
- File prescriptions after they have been dispensed.
- Report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
- Order, check‑in, and stock pharmacy supplies.
- Log invoices as necessary.
- Perform cash transactions.
- Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy and dispensing area.
- Assist with third‑party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
- Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
- Adhere to all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician.
- Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Report to work when scheduled and on time.
- Administer vaccines as allowed by law.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Logical and scientific thinking for problem solving.
- Arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculation skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication; ability to compose original correspondence and follow technical manuals.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified licensed pharmacy technician through a national program, with ongoing continuing education.
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or clerk is preferred.
- Vaccination certification as required by law.
- Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly.
- Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction.
- Perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
Fast work pace in a retail store setting with multiple simultaneous tasks, exposure to chemicals/solvents while compounding products and chemotherapy drugs.
Equipment UsedPC with pharmacy software, printer, cash register, ordering system, pharmacy balance, scanner, calculator, telephone, fax, and copier.
ConfidentialityMaintain confidentiality of customers’ private medical information in accordance with HIPPA.
ContactsDaily contact with customers, general public, suppliers/vendors, and occasional contact with community or trade/professional organizations and regulatory agencies.
