GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a caring and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a school in Wakefield WF5
. This is an opportunity for someone who understands that progress is not always measured in grades; rather sometimes it is a pupil feeling confident enough to try something new.

As an SEN TA
, you will provide practical and emotional support to pupils with additional needs. You ll help them access learning, develop their independence and feel included in everyday school life.

Your responsibilities as an SEN teaching assistant:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with the Special Education Need.
  • Helping pupils understand and complete classroom activities.
  • Encouraging positive communication, social interaction and independence.
  • Supporting pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural or learning difficulties.
  • Following individual support strategies and guidance provided by teaching staff.
  • Helping create a safe and inclusive environment where pupils feel valued.
  • Sharing relevant observations and updates with teachers and other support staff.

Requirements for the SEN teaching assistant role:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people, ideally within an SEN or education setting.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • A calm and understanding approach when faced with challenging behaviour or difficult situations.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new enhanced DBS check.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of pupils.
  • Dedicated support: A consultant who will remain available throughout your placement.
  • Local opportunities: Access to suitable roles across schools in the area.
  • Career guidance: Practical support to help you develop your experience within education.
