Staff Nurse - Oswald Ward (Closing date: 23 July 2026)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join Oswald Ward for a fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave. Oswald Ward specialises in musculoskeletal oncology and orthopaedic patients, providing comprehensive care for bone and soft tissue sarcomas and metastatic disease.
Main duties of the jobUnder the direction of the Ward Manager, the post holder is responsible for delivering high‑quality, skilled nursing care within a multidisciplinary environment, ensuring individualised and effective care.
- Contribute to the continuity of good team spirit and high standards of nursing care.
- Empower junior staff to develop clinical skills and facilitate communication within all care groups.
- Utilise ward resources to promote excellence in practice and expedite quality issues relevant to service delivery.
Please note that we have no access to OSCE support courses; nurses pending registration are welcome to apply but must be able to evidence that they have satisfied the NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination Test of Competence.
Job responsibilities- Maintain own nursing practice, up‑to‑date knowledge and professional competence.
- Deliver patient‑centred care, uphold NMC PREP standards, and demonstrate dexterous clinical skills.
- Assist ward staff with clinical and professional advice, support practice development and monitor performance.
- Keep abreast of NHS political issues and future nursing trends.
- Provide leadership to all staff, promote positive teamwork, and devise appropriate care programmes.
- Evaluate quality of care, re‑assess patient needs regularly, and effect necessary changes.
- Liaise with other professionals to ensure cohesive patient care and form well‑planned discharges with appropriate follow‑up.
- Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Post‑registration orthopaedic qualification.
- Experience taking charge of a team or unit.
- Technical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and central venous devices.
- Specialist experience, knowledge and skills in orthopaedics and oncology.
- Adaptability to changing pressures of work.
- Motivated, innovative and supportive.
- Initiative and ability to work under pressure.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- High level of communication skills and ability to work within a team.
- Basic computer skills.
- Articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver high standard of care.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Willingness to further enhance knowledge.

£31,049 to £37,796 a year pro rata
