We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Depot Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day running of our highway’s depot and stores operation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring materials, tools, plant, PPE, and equipment are available, maintained, and managed efficiently to support our operational teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for somebody with strong stock control, logistics, or stores experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of organisation, safety, and service.

Key Responsibilities Goods Receiving and Inspection
  • Receive deliveries of materials, tools, PPE, plant, and highways-related equipment.

  • Verify deliveries against purchase orders and delivery notes.

  • Report shortages, damaged items, or delivery discrepancies.

Stock Control and Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate stock records and inventory systems.

  • Monitor stock levels and arrange replenishment as required.

  • Carry out regular stock counts and investigate discrepancies.

  • Ensure effective management of highways materials, including signs, cones, barriers, aggregates, drainage materials, salt/grit, and maintenance supplies.

Materials, Plant and Equipment Control
  • Issue materials, tools, PPE, and equipment to operational teams and maintain accurate records.

  • Sign plant and equipment in and out to teams.

  • Maintain records for all tools and equipment, including condition, repairs, servicing, and returns.

  • Liaise with suppliers regarding breakdowns, repairs, and damaged plant.

PPE Management
  • Ensure all required PPE is available, stored correctly, and replaced when necessary.

  • Order PPE in accordance with company procedures.

  • Record all PPE issued and allocate costs to the appropriate Traffic Management or Contracting teams.

Waste Management
  • Ensure waste materials are segregated and disposed of correctly in accordance with environmental procedures.

  • Complete Waste Transfer Notes and maintain waste records through designated spreadsheets and systems.

Depot Operations
  • Assist with the safe loading and unloading of vehicles.

  • Ensure loads are secured correctly before transportation.

  • Keep warehouses, stores, and depot areas clean, organised, and secure.

  • Maintain clear access routes, emergency equipment access, and fire exit’s at all times.

Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Follow all company Health & Safety procedures, including COSHH, manual handling, PPE requirements, and traffic management regulations.

  • Promote safe working practices across the depot and stores operation.

  • Maintain accurate records including stock sheets, inspection reports, issue logs, delivery notes, and other operational documentation.

Communication and Support
  • Work closely with supervisors, operatives, suppliers, contractors, and procurement teams to ensure materials are available when required.

  • Support emergency response activities, winter maintenance operations, urgent repairs, and road closures when necessary.

  • Help prevent loss, theft, or unauthorised use of materials, tools, and equipment.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, depot, stock control, or logistics role.

  • Telescopic handler licence (essential)

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and stock management systems.

  • Experience managing stock, tools, PPE, and equipment.

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational teams and suppliers.

  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.

  • A full UK driving licence (preferred).

Highways, construction, utilities, or civil engineering experience.

Knowledge of COSHH regulations and waste management requirements.
