Summary
Reporting into the Chief Accountant, the Project Accountant is responsible for supporting and driving effective financial management, cost control, forecasting, and reporting for the Alexandra Bridge Project. This role plays a critical part in the project finance function and works closely with project managers, field teams, finance professionals, and other key stakeholders to support informed decision‑making and financial accountability.
Responsibilities Project Cost Management- Monitor project costs and analyze performance against approved budgets.
- Maintain job cost reports and financial tracking tools to support project oversight.
- Support project setup activities, including cost coding and budget creation.
- Assist in developing project forecasts and budget updates.
- Support monthly financial close activities and project reporting requirements.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with account reconciliations.
- Develop ad‑hoc financial reports and analysis for project leadership.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision‑making.
- Collaborate with project teams to gather cost, billing, and forecasting information.
- Partner with project managers and field teams to support financial planning and controls.
- Conduct site visits to understand project progress and associated financial impacts.
- Communicate financial information and project updates to key stakeholders.
- Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as required.
- Support training and guidance related to project cost controls and financial processes.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and reporting standards.
- Maintain accurate financial records and project documentation.
- Post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting, cost control, project administration, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of project costing principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
- Experience with ERP systems such as JDE is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced project environment.
- Base salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 per year.
