Role Description

This part‑time Bookkeeper role at Outline Unicorn is a hybrid position based in Ottawa, ON, with a mix of in‑office at clients business and work‑from‑home flexibility. The Bookkeeper will manage day‑to‑day financial records, including recording transactions, preparing and posting journal entries, and maintaining accurate ledgers. Responsibilities include reconciling bank and credit card accounts, assisting with the preparation of financial statements, and ensuring that all records comply with relevant standards and policies.

The role also involves working with accounting software to update client accounts, generate reports, and support informed financial decision‑making. The Bookkeeper will collaborate with team members and clients to provide timely, reliable financial information and help identify areas for improved financial efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Full Bookkeeping with Quick Books online experience

Using Microsoft Office, mainly (Excel and Word)

  • Familiar with Payroll, A/R and A/P cycles, bank and credit card reconciliation, project job costing, progress billing and payroll.
  • Preparation of regular external filings such as HST, Wsib and union reports.
  • Email and phone communication with clients to get supportive documents, has experience with inter‑companies related parties entries.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Verbal and written communication skills is required
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities under a tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work with little instruction or direction
  • Experience in construction industry for 3 years and above is a must.
  • It would be a great asset if you have experience in property management software like Buildium and simply accounting software.
  • EXPERIENCE:

    A minimum of 3 years of CANADIAN bookkeeping and accounting experience
  • Quick Books: 3+ year (preferred)
  • Must be fluent in English, French is good to have.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Bookkeeping and Journal Entries (Accounting) for accurate daily transaction recording and ledger maintenance.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Financial Statements and Finance to support reporting, analysis, and informed financial decision‑making.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Accounting Software to efficiently manage client accounts, reconcile balances, and generate financial reports.
  • Relevant experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, preferably in a small business or professional services environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy in working with numerical data.
  • Ability to work independently, manage part‑time hours effectively, and communicate clearly with clients and team members.
  • Post–secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and tax basics applicable to small businesses is an asset.
