Our client is a well-established, privately held organization with a long-standing reputation in Ottawa for providing exceptional service, quality, and expertise. They are now seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team, an opportunity well suited for a detail-oriented accounting professional who excels in a fast-paced environment and brings strong full-cycle accounting experience. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant supports key financial operations, including month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, financial reporting, audits, and the maintenance of effective internal controls.
The ideal candidate is a proactive and analytical professional who enjoys understanding the details behind financial information, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing practical solutions. Main responsibilities include:
- Oversee and continuously improve day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, general ledger activities, and financial transactions
- Prepare and review accounting entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial information to support accurate month-end and year-end close processes
- Support the preparation of financial statements, management reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Maintain accurate financial records, including fixed assets, balance sheet accounts, and supporting documentation, while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Assist with external audits by preparing required documentation and supporting audit activities
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, improve internal controls, and enhance efficiency through technology and automation
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members as needed.
- Stay current with relevant accounting, tax and regulatory requirements and contribute to ongoing improvements within the finance function
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as required

QualificationsThe main qualifications for this role include:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- CPA designation complete or in progress is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close and financial reporting
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity environment
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make insightful recommendations
- Proficiency in Excel
- Experience with audits, internal controls, tax filings, or fixed asset reporting is an asset
