Payroll consultant

We are looking for an experienced Payroll consultant to support a long-term contract opportunity in Ottawa, Ontario. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll specialist who can build structure, improve processes, and provide reliable guidance across complex payroll operations in the United States and internationally. The successful candidate will bring strong communication skills and hands-on expertise managing payroll, benefits, compliance, and vendor coordination in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
:

• Establish and organize payroll operations for a newly formed or developing payroll function, creating practical processes that support accuracy and consistency.

• Oversee end-to-end payroll activities for employees in the U.S. and other jurisdictions, ensuring timely processing and alignment with applicable legislation and internal policies.

• Administer payroll-related records, deductions, taxable benefits, and remittances with careful attention to compliance requirements.

• Work closely with internal stakeholders to address payroll inquiries, explain processes clearly, and build confidence across teams.

• Review payroll data for accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues through detailed analysis and corrective action.

• Coordinate with external payroll providers and system partners to support service delivery, reporting needs, and process improvements.

• Support benefit and expense-related payroll components, including integration points involving platforms such as Concur and payroll applications.

• Contribute to audits, reconciliations, and documentation updates to strengthen payroll controls and reporting reliability.
