Your Opportunity

Our Ottawa office has an opportunity for a Planning Student to join our Community Development (CD) group. The Ottawa CD group consists of engineers, planners, and landscape architects. The planning team serves various private and public sector clients and are involved in a number of exciting projects and pursuits within Ottawa, including work in LeBreton Flats, Wateridge Village, and trending areas like battery energy storage systems, urban boundary expansion, transit-oriented development, and shopping centre redevelopment.

The services we provide are wide ranging, and include such things as development approvals and review, due diligence and concept design, and master planning. Our multi-disciplinary approach means we work with architects, civil engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers.

This posting is for one (1) Planning Student position that will commence in May 2026. A minimum 4-month term, with opportunity for extension, will be discussed with applicants. The position accommodates a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office. Suitable workstation space will be provided, with additional details to be discussed with applicants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the planning team on a variety of projects and pusuits with work that could include the following tasks: research and analysis; report and proposal writing; application coordination with approval authorities, consultants, and clients; concept design; development feasibility / due diligence; and, public consultation and presentation support.

  • Provide general planning and administrative support to the planning team within the CD group.

  • Willingness to work in a challenging and fast-paced work environment.

  • Local travel outside the Ottawa office may be required.

  • Your Qualifications and Credentials:

  • Candidates will be highly motivated, willing to work in both an individual and team-oriented environment, and ready to participate in a wide variety of planning projects and pursuits.

  • Previous planning and land use development employment experience is an asset, but not necessarily a requirement.

  • Knowledge and experience of planning theory, ethics, and professional conduct.

  • Your Qualifications and Credentials:

  • Candidates will be highly motivated, willing to work in both an individual and team-oriented environment, and ready to participate in a wide variety of planning projects and pursuits.

  • Previous planning and land use development employment experience is an asset, but not necessarily a requirement.

  • Knowledge and experience of planning theory, ethics, and professional conduct.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with care taken to maintain professionalism in interactions with clients, colleagues, and the public.

  • Strong organizational skills and understanding how to prioritize workloads.

  • Creative problem solving and analytical skills.

  • A valid driver’s license is an asset.

  • Education and Experience:

  • The candidate must be enrolled in a certified post-secondary Planning Program.
