Tomlinson is a leader in transportation infrastructure development, and looking for an Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will prepare lump sum, unit rate and cost-plus estimates for a broad range of projects, liaises with customers, clients, sub-contractors and consulting engineers to build professional relationships and to promote R.W. Tomlinson services and capabilities. They have a thorough understanding of the company’s objectives and can think strategically and develop innovative ways of aiding the company’s success from an estimating and market relationship perspective.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares Cost Estimates

  • Obtains tender documents from online bid posting sites.
  • Attends job showings and pretender site visits.
  • Review existing site conditions.
  • Performs pre-qualification tasks as required.
  • Obtains bid bonds, and insurance quotes for tender submissions.
  • Review tender specifications, drawings, Geotech reports, Hydrogeological reports and draft contract/subcontract documents. Submit concerns or questions through the tender RFI process.
  • Identify all potential contract risks and liaison with our project controls and claims department for advice.
  • Communicates with sub-contractors to obtain pricing.
  • Contracts review involvement with our contract specialist prior to bidding.
  • Perform quantity calculations and full take-offs for all tender items.
  • Utilizing estimation software to prepare estimates
  • Production of project schedule for purpose of capturing overtime, constraints and yearly milestones.
  • Fills out pre-tender forms in SharePoint, fill out tender documents, delivery of tender documents, follow-up and provide tender results.
  • Reviews tender submissions with the appropriate manager.
  • Liaises with Customers, Sub-contractors and Consulting Engineers to Build Professional Relationships

  • Attend industry related functions to build relationships and networks.
  • Communicates with engineers through budget pricing etc. to build a relationship and to establish a positive, inviting culture.
  • Monitors RFT/RFP posting sites, newspapers, engineering firms, etc. for tendering opportunities.
  • Collaborate with our Construction, Project Controls and Management teams

  • Issues job transmittals to construction teams.
  • Run estimation hand-over meetings with field team to convey estimation productions, risks and opportunities carried in the estimate.
  • Issues sub-contracts and internal material purchase orders.
  • Meets with job superintendent to provide and communicate relevant job information.
  • Works closely with senior estimators, construction managers and superintendent to incorporate accurate construction bid productions.
  • Provide support for ongoing contracts

  • Assist projects teams in pricing and negotiating additional work for on-going contracts.
  • Provides scope of work clarification to construction teams.
  • Attends owner project meetings as required.
  • Developing cost plans for large change orders in SAP.

  • Attends training session
  • Identifies training opportunities and communicate to your manager
  • Work with senior staff to develop skills
  • Work with other estimators to share and enhance individual knowledge and skills
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certified Engineering Technologist designation an asset.
  • Experience in estimation of roads, sewer and water and new subdivision developments will be an asset.
  • 7+ years of a combination of field and estimating experience.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • A high proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Scheduling software Primavera P6 Professional
  • Hard Dollar Estimation software and SAP knowledge and asset
  • COMPENSATION INFORMATION:

  • The expected salary range for this position is $75,000-$100,000. Placement within the range is dependant on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
