Role Description
The Sewer and Water Foreman is a full-time, on-site role based in Nepean, ON. The person in this role will oversee daily sewer and water infrastructure activities, including installation, repair, and maintenance of underground piping systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Responsibilities include coordinating and supervising crews, organizing equipment and materials, reading and interpreting plans and specifications, and ensuring work is performed to code, on schedule, and within budget.
The foreman will monitor site safety, conduct site inspections, troubleshoot issues with underground utilities, and communicate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients. Additional tasks include completing daily reports, tracking productivity, training team members on best practices, and supporting continuous improvement of field operations.
- Strong communication and customer service skills to coordinate with crews, supervisors, subcontractors, and clients.
- Proven leadership experience in sewer, watermain, or underground utility construction, including supervising field crews.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, site plans, and specifications related to underground services.
- Thorough knowledge of sewer and water installation methods, trenching, soil conditions, and back filling requirements.
- Commitment to health and safety, including experience enforcing safety procedures and compliance with local regulations.
- Hands‑on experience operating or directing use of heavy equipment commonly used in sewer and water installation (e.g., excavators, loaders).
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to plan daily work, manage resources, and meet project deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Previous unionized construction experience and familiarity with applicable collective agreements are considered assets.
- Relevant trade certification, foreperson experience, or equivalent combination of education and field experience in civil or underground construction is preferred.
