About the Role

We are currently looking for a highly skilled, caring, and safety‑focused individual for our team with Construction Management and Design Build experience. Reporting to the Vice President of Pre‑Construction & Estimating, the Senior Estimator will be responsible for calculating major construction cost estimates, and planning, developing, negotiating, and performing contract execution for a project. The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the Estimating Team through the estimating process and tender closings.

Responsibilities
  • Study plans and specifications, clarifying location and document discrepancies.
  • Confirm if a site visit is required and arrange attendance.
  • Organize plans and specifications for display, distribution and posting on the website.
  • Complete pre‑bid forms and set up summary sheets.
  • Fill out bonding and insurance requests and submission.
  • Prepare sub‑trade request list for estimating assistant.
  • Ask owners/architects for budget, and perform budget estimate reference based on S.F. or historical data before bidding.
  • Solicit bidders, prepare a sub‑trade request list for distribution, and note special trades to be personally called.
  • List special materials and call for prices.
  • Deal with RFI’s internally and from sub‑trades and log.
  • Take off and extend all trades. Requires understanding of division 2 (30) and division 3 scope and estimating; ability to read soils and designated substance reports; ability to conduct cut and fill take off, excavation backfill, site servicing, and formwork and concrete quantities and pricing.
  • Work on unit‑rate tenders and perform take off in direct relation to the units.
  • Attend site visits (personal vehicle required), take pictures, notes, and interact with owner/consultant.
  • Recap, price, and extend quantity take off.
  • Read, understand, and distribute all addenda.
  • Build a preliminary tender schedule based on major and long delivery dates and review with the construction department.
  • Prepare the closing sheet.
  • Identify risk or opportunity avenues.
  • Prepare the tender form in advance.
  • Prepare comparative spreadsheets for individual divisions of work for closing.
  • Close a division or more during a tender.
  • Perform Class D, C, B, and A budgets and interact with clients.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Engineering or Construction Management degree, Technical College diploma, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years in the ICI construction industry or equivalent.
  • Experience in Construction Management and Design Build projects is required.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage a tender closing.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements.
  • Gold Seal Certified is an asset.
  • LEED Accredited is an asset.
  • Procore and BIM software knowledge is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex issues.
