Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator, the Junior Bridge Estimator will support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects. The successful candidate will assist with reviewing project drawings and specifications, completing quantity take-offs, gathering pricing and preparing bid documentation. This role is ideal for an early-career professional looking to develop their estimating expertise within major bridge and civil infrastructure projects.

Duties
  • Review project drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand the scope of work.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs for bridge components including concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, foundations and earthworks.
  • Assist with developing cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor services.
  • Obtain and review quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and vendors.
  • Support the preparation of competitive bids, proposals and tender submissions.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, quotations, assumptions and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in identifying potential risks, cost impacts and scope gaps during the estimating process.
  • Work with engineers and project teams to clarify technical requirements and design information.
  • Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings and project handover meetings as required.
  • Support constructability reviews and value-engineering exercises.
  • Research current material pricing, labour rates, equipment costs and market conditions.
  • Assist the Chief Estimator and senior estimating team with bid reviews, estimate updates and other pre-construction activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
  • Approximately one to three years of estimating, construction or civil infrastructure experience.
  • Exposure to bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation or major civil infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of bridge construction methods, structural components, materials and specifications.
  • Experience completing quantity take-offs and interpreting construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, foundations and earthworks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with estimating and take-off software such as HCSS Heavy Bid or Bluebeam is an asset.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop within a bridge estimating environment.
