Job Overview
A skilled audio engineer is required to manage sound for a live band performance at a major conference on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Horticultural Building, Lansdowne Park, Ottawa. The event features a five-piece Top 40 cover band with lead vocals, electric guitar, electric bass, keyboards, and drums. The role involves overseeing all aspects of live sound setup, mixing, and technical support throughout the event.
All sound, lighting, and stage equipment will be provided by the conference organizers. The successful candidate will ensure optimal audio quality for both performers and audience, working closely with the band and event staff to deliver a seamless live music experience.
- Set up and configure all provided audio equipment, including 3 vocal microphones, 5 drum microphones, and DI boxes for bass and keyboards.
- Conduct a thorough sound check with the band at 4 pm, ensuring balanced levels and clear monitoring for all musicians.
- Operate the audio mixer and manage live sound throughout the performance, which consists of two 60‑minute sets with a 15‑minute intermission.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during setup, sound check, or the live show.
- Collaborate with event staff to coordinate stage logistics and adhere to the event schedule (3 pm load‑in, 4 pm sound check, 5:45 pm–8 pm performance).
- Review and implement the provided stage plot to ensure efficient setup and optimal sound distribution.
- Proven experience as a live audio engineer, preferably with multi‑instrument bands and conference or event settings.
- Strong knowledge of live sound mixing, microphone placement, DI usage, and troubleshooting audio systems.
- Familiarity with standard stage equipment, audio mixers, and live sound reinforcement techniques.
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints and adapt to changing event requirements.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with musicians and event staff.
- Availability on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Ottawa for the full event schedule.
- Professional, punctual, and detail‑oriented approach to live event production.
