Clinical Associate Physician-Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
CLINICAL ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN – PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT DIVISION OF CRITICAL CARE

The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting a full‑time Clinical Associate physician within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Division of Critical Care, starting as soon as possible.
The ideal candidate will hold a medical degree from an approved LCME school. Experience in PICU and/or further subspecialty training or certification in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesia or Pediatric Emergency Medicine are considered assets but not a requirement. Any interested candidates should apply, and we will offer additional fellow‑level training if required.
The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Faculty of Medicine with a rank commensurate with experience. While English is the language of the health record, proficiency in French is an asset.
The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa, providing outstanding patient care, leading research and quality pediatric medical education. The Department provides health care to children throughout the Ottawa region and beyond.
Clinical responsibilities include:- In‑house overnight coverage of the PICU, with backup support from the most responsible physician
- Rounding on PICU patients and implementing patient plans
- Seeing ER consults and rapid response team activations
- Attending resuscitations and Code Blues
- Performing or assisting with procedures such as intubations, central lines, chest tubes and arterial lines (based on experience)
- Supporting transfers from outside hospitals
- Attending family and multidisciplinary meetings
Renumeration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate of $125–150 per hour (depending on experience). Minimum of five overnight shifts per month, with additional shifts at the per diem rate if desired.
Candidate requirements:
- MD and eligible for licensing in Ontario
- Preference given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
