The Division of Dermatology provides exemplary care to patients with a wide variety of cutaneous diseases within the Ottawa region, and outreach care to patients in Eastern Ontario, West Quebec and Nunavut. The division is focusing on the development of priority programs including skin cancer with a focus on Mohs surgery, transplant patients, mycosis fungoides and melanoma, inflammatory dermatoses such as severe psoriasis, dermatitis and hidradenitis suppurativa, as well as laser surgery.
We are based in the Dermatology Centre of Excellence within The Ottawa Hospital. The division is known for its very successful Dermatology Residency Training Program with 20 residents. It is our plan to further foster and support clinical research and educational curriculum development.
The Ottawa Hospital is a 1445-bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at three main inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). The hospital provides approximately 67,450 inpatient admissions, 178,200 emergency visits and one million ambulatory care visits annually.
Ground-breaking medical research is conducted through The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). We rank among the top 4 hospitals in Canada for Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded research and overall research funding. The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department. Currently, 24 members hold a Canada Research Chair or a University Research Chair. The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.

Responsibilities The Division Head is accountable to the Chair/Head of the Department of Medicine in fulfilling the mission, vision and goals of the Department, the Hospital and the Faculty, in particular as they relate to the Division. The Division Head holds a joint appointment as the university head for academics and hospital head for clinical services.
The Division Head is part of the leadership team of the Department of Medicine. As such, the Division Head will work with department, hospital, and faculty leadership. This role will require on average one to two days per week for administrative activities with the remainder of time dedicated to clinical, academic and/or research activities. The Division Head will collaborate with the Department Chair/Head to set annual goals and objectives.
