Job Summary
Join the University of Ottawa as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Reporting to the Provost and Vice‑President, Academic Affairs, the Dean will oversee all faculty operations, including budget administration, fund development, and the promotion of innovative research, excellent learning experiences, and faculty growth. The role demands decisive leadership, a compelling vision for research impact, and a commitment to reconciliation and inclusive excellence in a bilingual, Canada‑wide context.
Responsibilities• Lead strategic vision and day‑to‑day operations for a faculty of more than 250 professors and 10,000 students across nine academic units.
• Secure and manage funding, develop financial plans, and ensure stewardship of the faculty budget.
• Foster a culture of research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and high‑quality teaching and learning.
• Cultivate relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and the broader community to advance the faculty’s mission.
• PhD and appointable at the rank of full professor.
• Distinguished record of academic leadership in the social sciences, with experience leading significant change and transformation.
• Proven financial management and fund‑development background.
• Bilingual in French and English, with a commitment to reconciliation, inclusive excellence, and a student‑centred leadership style.
• Exceptional communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to inspire and mentor faculty, staff, and students.
