DESCRIPTION:
On behalf of our client, Devonshire Child Care Centre (DCCC), we are recruiting an experienced, committed, and community‑focused Program Supervisor to support the continued success of this respected not‑for‑profit childcare centre in Ottawa. DCCC is known for its strong reputation, warm environment, and deep commitment to high‑quality early learning and family partnership.

This leadership role is central to the day‑to‑day functioning of the centre. The Program Supervisor works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that all programming, operations, and interactions reflect DCCC’s philosophy, align with Ministry of Education requirements, and sustain the safety and well‑being of every child and staff member. ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Program Supervisor is a role model and a steady presence in the Centre. You will support program delivery, guide staff, maintain essential administrative and compliance expectations, and uphold the standards set by the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and governing legislation. This position requires professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication, and a genuine commitment to early childhood education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning and Policy
  • Support the implementation of policies, plans, and programs within the Ministry of Education guidelines and applicable legislation.
  • Monitor daily practice to ensure effective use of resources and delivery of high‑quality services to children and families.
  • Education and Curriculum
  • Ensure age‑appropriate curriculum aligned with CCEYA, How Does Learning Happen (HDLH), and ELECT is developed and implemented throughout the centre.
  • Plan and support developmentally appropriate programming and reflective practices.
  • Participate in staff meetings, curriculum planning, and environmental setup.
  • Support individualized programming and recommendations for field trips and program enhancements.
  • Child Guidance and Family Relationships
  • Maintain child guidance practices consistent with program philosophy, ensuring dignity, respect, and care for every child.
  • Integrate children thoughtfully into the program, supporting social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development.
  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents regarding children’s progress.
  • Conduct New Parent interviews and assist with orientation and ongoing family engagement.
  • Human Resources and Leadership
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to DCCC staff.
  • Support annual performance evaluations and ongoing staff development.
  • Assist with staffing schedules, including sick leave and holiday co-ordination.
  • Co‑ordinate, onboard, and support staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in the hiring process and make recommendations regarding staffing.
  • Health, Safety and Compliance
  • Observe and document children’s health, support hygiene routines and Public Health expectations.
  • Implement emergency management and fire safety procedures.
  • Administer medications with proper authorization and complete all required documentation.
  • Ensure Ministry‑mandated ratios are always maintained.
  • Oversee the completion of daily housekeeping and sanitation duties.
  • Administration
  • Maintain and update records, including attendance, children’s files, daily logs, accident reports, documentation, and correspondence.
  • Support the development of newsletters, handbooks, and written materials.
  • Remain informed on CCEYA regulations, policies, legal responsibilities, and sector trends.
  • Assist with budget recommendations related to program equipment and supplies.
  • Community Involvement
  • Always represent the program with utmost professionalism within the community.
  • Liaise with community professionals and sector organizations as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional associations and professional development opportunities.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check.
