Role

Purpose:

  • To teach (very) young learners between the ages of 4 and 17 to British Council standards and take an active part in all British Council initiatives and professional learning and development. The British Council delivers unique, holistic courses to young learners and you will deliver courses that incorporate:

    a four-skill approach (reading, writing, listening and speaking) leading to increased confidence and better communication in English

    whole child development with a focus on developing life skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, digital literacy, collaboration and communication, citizenship, creativity and imagination, and leadership and personal development

    a sense of progress achieved through tangible lesson aims, regular feedback and clear assessment

    evidence of learning through magazines and supplementary material designed by our English language experts

  • Overview:

    There are two teaching centres in Kolonaki and Kifissia. Currently there are around 1,700 students per academic year. All sites are equipped with IWBs/Smart boards and teaching takes place almost exclusively between 1600 – 2200 Mon – Fri and 0830 – 1730 on Saturdays . Classes on the whole are in-person with online events at various times throughout the academic year.

    Main Accountabilities:

  • to plan, prepare and deliver 3 to 5-hour young learner lessons on agreed days/times including Saturdays

  • to monitor, give feedback to encourage student autonomy and counsel students where required

  • to contribute to the evaluation, development and improvement of course materials and related services in order to meet students’ needs

  • to deliver courses to agreed timetables, plan and manage courses purposefully and in accordance with syllabus and learning aims

  • to complete related administrative tasks such as student registers and parent communications

  • to provide teaching-cover as required for absent colleagues

  • Qualification:

    Essentials

  • Undergraduate and or University degree

  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL

  • Desirable

  • CELTA YL Extension or TYLEC or DELTA

  • Work Experience

    Essential

  • A minimum of 2-year post-certificate i.e. CELTA or Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.

  • Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive hourly teaching rate, depending upon experience and qualifications

  • Additional Information

  • Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract for 10 months (September 2024-June 2025) with option of renewal
