JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities.

Under the guidance of a Program Coordinator, you are responsible for the daily programming of an Inclusive Recreation unit camp. This includes program adaptation, intervention and collaboration with camp staff. You ensure inclusion and a supportive recreation environment for special needs pre-school/children and youth registered in camps, and that participants have a safe and enjoyable camp experience. You may also provide ongoing integration.

Work is performed in accordance with related legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Note:

minimum age of 16 years is required for this Summer Student job.

Post-Secondary Student (completion of first year college or university) - Recreation and Leisure, Psychology, Sociology, DSW, etc.

Note:

Student must be returning to school in the fall

Minimum of 8 months but less than 1 year of related experience is required

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certificates

AODA Accessibility/IASR Training Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate

Alternative Communication Systems (ASL
- American Sign Language) training is desirable

Ergonomic Lifts and Transfers training is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding the development and recreational needs of children
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
  • Must be familiar with applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
