The role of the Bilingual/ESL Coordinator is to provide leadership in Bilingual and ESL programs by being responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring effective bilingual and ESL programs that result in improved classroom and site practices to increase student learning performance and growth.
Qualifications Education/Certification- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (bilingual preferred)
- Master’s Degree Preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition strategies
- Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
- Ability to interpret data to evaluate instructional programs
- Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with bilingual parents and students
- Ability to work well with a diverse population
- Five to seven years of successful bilingual teaching experience
- A minimum of two years on non-classroom leadership experience (preferred)
- Fluent Spanish speaker (required)
- Support the full continuum of Bilingual and ESL services to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate effective instructional programs to ensure that each student meets and exceeds the standards.
- Collaborates with Bilingual and ESL staff to ensure support is provided to program teachers and LPAC facilitators on campuses.
- Works cooperatively and collectively with Principals and staff to ensure that language programs and services are coordinated in the schools and are administered uniformly.
- Facilitates planning and resource alignment to ensure that district personnel are adequately equipped to meet the needs of emerging bilingual students.
- Collaborates with curriculum personnel to create district curriculum for Spanish Language Arts and ESL.
- Collaborates with curriculum personnel to ensure that emergent bilingual students are an integral part of the regular education program.
- Organizes and supervises the implementation on the district’s Bilingual/ESL PK and K Summer School program.
- Works with parents and LPAC facilitators to ensure appropriate program placement.
- Plans and conducts parent meetings to deliver information about the program and coordinate Title III activities.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of communications to provide information to parents in their native language through various media outlets.
- Provides support and facilitates training of LPAC facilitators to ensure that LPAC meetings and documentation are properly maintained.
- Participates in department and district collaborative initiatives.
- Coordinate with campus administrators to provide extended learning opportunities for identified students.
- Develop and/or translate curriculum-based assessments for STAAR/EOC tested courses.
- Support PLCs with analyzing and interpreting testing data.
- Assist in the recruitment, screening, interviewing of Bilingual and ESL teachers.
- Develops, conducts, and/or arranges for professional development opportunities for Bilingual and ESL teachers.
- Provide curriculum resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals and in promoting student achievement.
- Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
- Assist with LPACs as needed.
- Reviews and analyzes student data to identify specific needs for improved student performance.
- Collects and effectively utilizes data regarding the Bilingual and ESL programs.
- Translate and interpret written or verbal information as needed.
- Develops a long-term plan for Bilingual and ESL education, including staffing and instructional needs to meet the needs of the growing emergent bilingual population.
