Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives, the Coordinator, Mamidosewin Indigenous Student Centre provides a wide range of day-to-day support to the overall function of the Mamidosewin Centre. The incumbent plans, designs and executes Mamidosewin Centre's events, leads an expanding range of Student-Centre communication mediums, orchestrates gathering space operations and has a senior role in campus-wide initiatives when requested by the Indigenous Initiatives director.
The incumbent is the main liaison between the Director, Indigenous Initiatives, and the Mamidosewin Centre employees regarding:
the planning and coordination of the schedules for the Indigenous Student Navigators and replacements,
activities related to student support and engagement,
processes related to food security,
organization of the Centre,
welcoming guests and presenters, and
problem-solving day to day issues.
The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership in organization, administration, and communicating with fellow employees and partners. The incumbent is required to promote existing student services available to Indigenous students. The incumbent documents all day-to-day occurrences within the Centre, provides a brief report to the Director, Indigenous Initiatives daily, and supports and trains Student Navigators as required. The incumbent applies for and / or obtains external funding from two different sources for various projects or services for Indigenous students.
The incumbent is the administrator for linking Indigenous Students and sponsors of Indigenous Students to the supports within the Mamidosewin Centre and all other areas of the college.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support:
Students and Indigenous Success Navigators
Provide guidance to the Indigenous Student Navigators and students who frequent the Mamidosewin Indigenous Student Centre;
Documenting, communicating and providing training to student employees;
Monitoring and requesting/assigning tasks to all Indigenous Student Navigators;
Providing direction and mentorship to Indigenous Student Navigators;
Scheduling student employees (providing support to gather the work hours of the Indigenous Student Navigators);
Understanding the realities and needs of Indigenous students;
The incumbent provides client support and employs coordination skills to engage and assist all members of the Mamidosewin Centre as it relates to recruitment, enrolment, retention and engagement.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum two (2) year diploma in Indigenous Studies, Business, Education, Event Planning, Public Relations, or related fields of study. Equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be accepted in place of formal education;
Additional requirements obtained by course(s) of a total of 100 hours or less
Food Handling Certificate
Fire Safety Training from an official fire department, including fire extinguisher training
Five years of cumulative and related experience working in / with:
Indigenous Communities and possessing intuitive insight into the Indigenous worldview and cultural protocols; adult students or clients; managing Indigenous vendor and contractor relationships; planning and executing events within an Indigenous environment; and writing, editing copy for print and digital communications.
