Teaching Assistant ESL

Position: Teaching Assistant Role for ESL 120
Become a part-time Teaching Assistant for ESL 120 at the University of Ottawa during the Fall 2026 semester. Utilize your skills to create an interactive learning environment for English language learners.

This role is focused on assisting students with four key skills in English: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The Teaching Assistant will work under the guidance of faculty, utilizing a student-centered approach that reinforces academic vocabulary and grammar. In-person instruction is a requirement, so a confident command of English and previous ESL experience will be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

• Aid in the preparation of lesson plans

• Engage students through group work facilitation

• Attend faculty meetings to provide insights on class progress

• Clarify English concepts and vocabulary for students

• Support a collaborative learning environment

Requirements:

• Experience in ESL training and education preferred

• Excellent command of the English language

• Previous classroom experience is advantageous

• Knowledge of multimedia tools for teaching

• Completion of mandatory training is required
