  • Content Specialist Tutor (Part-Time, Contract)
  • In person (Elmwood School, Ottawa ON)
  • Hourly rate: $41-$63/hour depending on experience and certification
Role Overview

Elmwood Edge Content Specialist Tutor (Math, French, English, Science, Chemistry, Physics)

Key Responsibilities
  • Work one-on-one with students to strengthen their content knowledge while building independent learning skills.
  • Employ brain-based learning strategies to tailor sessions to individual student needs.
  • Foster a love of learning and create an environment where students feel confident, inspired, and unstoppable.
  • Collaborate with students to set personalized goals and track their progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers and communicate with families.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and challenges.
Ideal Candidate
  • Content Expertise: A proven track record of success in their field, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Teaching

    Experience:

    Experience teaching or tutoring with a focus on fostering independence and student growth.
  • Brain-Based Strategies:
    Familiarity with cognitive science principles and their application in teaching and learning.
  • Growth Mindset: A commitment to helping students overcome obstacles, embrace challenges, and grow academically and personally.
  • Inspiration & Encouragement: A nurturing approach that leaves students feeling motivated and capable of achieving their goals.
  • Professionalism:
    Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a consistent schedule and approach.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in a specific field or content area or a related discipline. Education degree is an asset.
  • Experience working with students individually, with demonstrated success in helping them achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Knowledge of effective tutoring techniques and cognitive apprenticeship methods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Position Details

This is a part-time contract position. Chosen candidates will work as independent contractors with flexible scheduling to meet the needs of students. Compensation will be competitive and based on experience and expertise.
