EducationalAssistant – 100% Term, 35 hours/week, 8:20am - 4:00pm
Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The role involves dealing with confidential information, requires ongoing flexibility and variability, and includes collaboration with teaching and other professional staff.
ResponsibilitiesSupport students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities; participate in pool programs; provide academic support; implement special programs; support deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students; deliver physiotherapy exercises and stretches; modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues; may include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties.
Candidate Profile- Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker or equivalent.
- Minimum 1–2 years of related experience with school‑aged special needs children.
- Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is an asset.
- Completed Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training.
- Include copies of diplomas and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.
- DSW/CYW or equivalent experience.
- Experience with autism.
- Assistive technology skills.
- Behaviour modification and management systems.
- Collaborative problem solving.
- Computer skills.
- Crisis intervention knowledge.
- Yard duty experience.
- Dependability, strong work ethic, and flexibility as a team player.
- Ability to observe, record and chart behaviour data.
- Assistance with toileting.
- Regular Classroom Support, General Population;
Behaviour Intervention Program (BIP);
Medical Fragility (Medical); ASD in regular classroom.
Regular part‑time employees who are eligible to increase their status may apply to part‑time term vacancies if this does not interfere with their regular assignment, provided a minimum of 30 minutes between assignments or travel time. Regular full‑time employees are not eligible to apply for term vacancies.
Salary$29.54 – $32.95 per hour.
