Position Title: Child and Youth Worker
Status: Summer 2026:
June 29, 2026 – August 21, 2026 (8weeks, 35 hrs/week)

Position SummaryThe Child and Youth Worker will require to create a safe space that fosters a sense of belonging and positive integration for newcomer youth aged 13 to 24. This Position also focuses on providing opportunities for one‑on‑one support and the development of community networks that enable immigrant youth to share experiences and enhance their awareness of Canadian cultural knowledge.
Main Responsibilities:- Provide guidance, information and orientation for immigrant and refugee youth
- Develop and facilitate relevant activities for the Program
- Develop and lead weekly groups in schools in the community settings, virtually and in‑person
- Develop and present workshops to youth on a variety of topics
- Keep accurate records of client information and services delivered
- Collect and enter data on client services for monthly statistical reports
- Become familiar with and comply with all OCISO’s policies and procedures
- Any other duties assigned to you as may reasonably be required in line with the Position’s main responsibilities
The funder requires that successful candidates be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Legally entitled to work in Canada according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
Please note:
International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
- Enrolled as a secondary student in the previous academic year and intending to return to school full‑time in the next academic year
- Enrolled in post‑secondary social sciences, social work, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Experience in working with diverse cultural backgrounds
- Sound knowledge of different issues facing newcomers to Canada, specifically refugees and immigrants
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
- Flexibility regarding work location
- Strong work ethic, leadership and the ability to multi‑task
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
- Ability to speak other languages that are spoken by the diverse communities in Ottawa is an asset
- Ability to work with a diverse youth group in a sensitive, respectful and non‑judgmental manner
- Ability to work as a team member, individually, and with minimal supervision
Salary: $17.60/hour + 4% vacation pay
