GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Clubhouse Manager, the Junior Youth Worker – Tennis Instructor assists with the delivery of safe, engaging, and inclusive tennis programming for children and youth. The primary focus of this role is to support participants, help facilitate activities, and contribute to a positive and welcoming camp environment. This position is 40 hours per week for 2 weeks in July (6-10 & 20-24)
JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
The Junior Youth Worker – Tennis Instructor supports with the implementation of tennis and recreation activities by assisting instructors, engaging participants, setting up equipment, and helping ensure programs run safely and effectively. This position is ideal for a youth who enjoys working with children, has an interest in sports and recreation, and wants to gain valuable leadership and employment experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACTIVITIES

Major Responsibility 1:
Program Support

Assist instructors with the delivery of tennis lessons, drills, games, and recreational activities.

Support participant engagement and encourage positive participation.

Help prepare, distribute, and organize equipment before, during, and after programs.

Assist with participant attendance and transitions between activities.

Major Responsibility 2:
Participant Supervision and Engagement

Build positive relationships with children, youth, and families.

Provide encouragement and support to participants of varying skill levels.

Help create an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment.

Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies as directed by supervisors.

Major Responsibility 3:
Health, Safety and Risk Management

Follow all BGC Ottawa policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Assist with maintaining safe activity spaces and identifying potential hazards.

Respond appropriately to participant needs and seek support from senior staff when required.

Support emergency procedures and incident reporting processes as directed.

Major Responsibility 4:
Teamwork and Professionalism

Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude.

Participate in required training and staff meetings.

Represent BGC Ottawa positively within the community.

Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in secondary school or a recent secondary school graduate.

Interest in sports, recreation, physical activity, or working with children and youth.

Basic knowledge of tennis is considered an asset.

Experience volunteering, coaching, mentoring, babysitting, camp participation, or working with children is considered an asset.

Ability to obtain a Police Record Check (if required by program and age eligibility).

Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset
