Position

Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Academic Program Management, promotes academic success among students and the quality and standardization of teaching practices for courses offered by the Centre for Language Learning by providing individualized student support and advocacy and by developing and maintaining program curriculum, assessments, and pedagogical  this job, your responsibilities will include:

Curriculum Development and Teacher Support :

Evaluates strengths and weaknesses of current program curriculum and assessment practices to identify areas for innovation. Research curriculum models and practices from other institutions and recent advances in second language teaching and learning research within defined review cycles. In consultation with the Manager, recommends and coordinates the implementation of curriculum initiatives to ensure updates are evidence-based and occur within defined time frames.

Develop curriculum materials for courses offered by the Centre for Language Learning, including course outlines, learning outcomes, suggested learning tasks, and benchmarking procedures. Collaborates with instructors to select pedagogical resources, including textbooks, digital resources, and supplementary content, to ensure the quality and standardization of teaching practices across course sections.

Collaborate with instructors to develop exams and standard assessments for courses offered by the Centre for Language Learning. Supports the coordination of exam logistics across course sections to ensure the integrity, standardization, and effectiveness of assessments.

Plans and conduct curriculum orientations for new instructors and teaching assistants and serves as the primary resource person for curriculum-related questions and support. Develops content for and monitors the use of curriculum information platforms such as Brightspace to facilitate consistent and effective curriculum implementation across the Centre for Language Learning.

Student Academic Support and Success :

Provides academic advice and individualized support to students. Develops working solutions for students at risk by designing individual study plans, advising on learning strategies, collaborating with tutors, and locating relevant pedagogical resources. Tracks student performance and attendance and intervenes when necessary to foster academic success among students in the Centre for Language Learning.

Collaborates with instructors, program administrators, and institutional partners, and sponsors on promoting student success, while advocating for students when necessary, and serves as the main resource person for students ises students on services and departments on campus and liaises with other sectors to support student success and conversion to undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Ottawa.

Develops and delivers academic support presentations for students on topics such as study strategies and learning skills, and orientations for teaching assistants on program expectations and procedures, to support effective integration into programs offered by the Centre for…
