Job Overview
Spécialisation en traduction I (Course Code: TRA
5545) – Regular Part‑Time Professor for the 2027 Winter Semester in the Faculty of Arts at the School of Translation and Interpretation. The position will involve teaching the course in French on Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:30, with an expected enrollment of approximately 20 students.
- Deliver lessons and manage classroom activities primarily in French, occasionally in English.
- Develop and maintain a course site within the university learning management system.
- Choose appropriate source texts aligned with student level and course learning objectives.
- Integrate theoretical, conceptual, terminological, and domain conventions into the curriculum.
- Provide detailed feedback on translation exercises and assessments to help students develop translation and critical analysis skills.
- Incorporate relevant computer tools and exercises, using resources provided by the school.
- Collaborate with program leadership and colleagues to ensure curricular coherence and alignment with learning outcomes while preserving academic freedom.
- Professional level proficiency in both English (passive) and French (active).
- Master’s or higher degree in translation or translation studies, or recognized professional training by an association or order of translators.
- Extensive professional experience in administrative translation from English to French, preferably within Canada (e.g., federal or provincial government).
- Strong conceptual and terminological knowledge, mastery of textual conventions and experience in professional administrative translation, preferably in the public sector.
- Excellent command of public sector writing and translation conventions (e.g., federal or provincial government).
- Teaching experience at the university level is an asset.
Hourly rate: $239.47 (2024‑2025 TRM scale). Approximate teaching hours: 3hours per week plus additional preparation time, for a total of 39hours per academic year. Rates do not include vacation pay or statutory payments, which will be applied after the next collective agreement ratification.
