Position: Educational Assistant (50%) - Mary Honeywell ES-  TERM (8:00AM - 11:30AM)

To Join The Following Initiative Educational Assistant – 5 0% Term

Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability. Responsibilities are varied, in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff, and include supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities;

participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches.

Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by Employee Services staff. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is an asset. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Class, The position will require the ability to navigate daily physical challenges with agility, ensuring safety of student. BMS and wearing PPE is required.

Who Can Apply

In accordance with the Student Support Personnel's Collective Agreement, O.S.S.T.F. District 25, and further to Articles 23.04 and 23:07 qualified regular part-time employees are eligible to increase their status and apply to part-time term vacancies if it does not interfere with their regular assignment, subject to Article 13:03; (i.e. 30 minutes between assignments or travel time, whichever is greater, without impact on current part-time hours of work).

Regular full-time employees are not eligible to apply for term vacancies.

NOTE:

As per the SSP Collective Agreement, EAs who have already accepted terms for the 2026/2027 school year that end June 25, 2027 are not eligible to apply unless to increase status.

Salary

$28.45 per hour + 4% Vacation Pay.

This position does not come with paid vacation days. Percentage vacation pay is provided in lieu.
