Job Summary

Student-Parent/Program Support Workers (SPSW) are responsible for building relationships and facilitating ongoing communication with students, parents/guardians, and secondary school staff with the objective of supporting students’ academic success. The SPSW works in close collaboration with teammates and under the direction of Team Supervisors to prepare and deliver both virtual and in-person evening programming. This position provides student support and is actively involved in programming.

Responsibilities
  • Student/ Parent Support:
  • Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with Pathways students, parents/guardians, and secondary school staff to ensure student participation in the program and in school, via regular contact.
  • Identify strengths, capacities, barriers, and challenges of Pathways students and refer to appropriate academic, social, and emotional supports within the school system and community as needed.
  • Act as a liaison among students, parents/guardians, school staff and other service providers to support students’ needs and goals.
  • Share relevant information across all elements of the Pathways program (SPSW Team, Program Facilitators, Supervisors).
  • Document student information in the Pathways Data Base and program-specific documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Ontario curriculum, paths for success within the school system, and available resources to support graduation.
  • Support students in post-graduation planning, including post-secondary programs, funding opportunities, and application timelines.
  • Monitor and support Pathways students to participate in academic and social activities, or alternative programming as appropriate.
  • Program Support:
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver Pathways programming focused on academic success, recreation/pro-social activities, skills development/leadership, employability, volunteering, career exploration, and post-secondary preparation.
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment during program activities (behavior management, emergency procedures).
  • Organize activities and events to meet Pathways students and families’ needs (orientation, graduation, parent engagement).
  • Ensure programming meets diverse needs and abilities of all students.
  • Liaise with Pinecrest-Queensway Community Services to identify collaboration opportunities for Pathways students and families.
  • Identify and maintain partnerships with community organizations, local businesses, post-secondary providers, and other groups supporting Pathways students.
  • Provide on-site support to volunteers during programming, including fostering relationships among staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Administration and Teamwork:
  • Lead the student registration/re-registration process, including meetings with students and parents to explain the program and complete forms.
  • Collect and maintain student information (attendance, credits, etc.) in electronic and paper files.
  • Document interactions with students, parents/guardians and school staff per program policies and timelines.
