Course Title and Information

Teaching Science-Chemistry at the Senior Division (PED 4125, Section S200)

Course Description

Introduction to the teaching of one of many disciplines at the intermediate and senior divisions. Impact of the particular discipline on the whole learner; individualized instruction; theoretical framework and pedagogical implications; critical examination and interpretation of relevant curriculum guidelines. Development of programs; analysis and application of specific teaching strategies and techniques unique to the discipline. Evaluation procedures and techniques.

Course Format & Schedule

Hybrid course: ten in‑person sessions on campus (30 instructional hours) and two online modules via Brightspace (6 instructional hours). Schedule – Monday 14:30‑17:30.

Compensation & Work Hours

Year: 2026‑2027;
Regular part‑time professor; 39 work hours per week; 3 academic credits; hourly rate: $239.47 (2024‑2025). Rates not inclusive of vacation or statutory pay.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education required;
    Ph.D. in Education preferred.
  • Qualification to teach in Ontario schools (OCT certification) at the Intermediate/Senior levels and/or research‑based work focused on the subject of the course.
  • Recent experience teaching in a school or working in administration of a school board at the intermediate‑senior level, with specialist qualification in the subject of the course.
  • Knowledge of the current Ontario Curriculum and of the Ethical Standards and Standards of Practice of the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those set out above.
Other Requirements

Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training. The list of required training may be modified by provincial law.
